Dr. Elsa M. Gonzalez works as an associate professor at the University of Houston, where her research interests include issues in higher education, particularly among underrepresented populations. She also serves as a program director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), responsible for the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program Network Resource Centers and Hubs (HSI-Net) and Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI Program). Established in 2017, the goals of the HSI Program are to enhance the quality of undergraduate STEM education and increase the recruitment, retention and graduation rates of students pursuing STEM degrees at HSIs.
