Raquel Tamez serves as CEO of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), a national organization focused on empowering the Hispanic community and creating a powerful network of students and professionals via the promotion of careers in STEM. Since her appointment in 2017, she has expanded SHPE’s national programs, services and resources offered to its over 13,000 members across the U.S. Tamez holds a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and prior to her position with SHPE, she was the chief legal officer and general counsel for SourceAmerica, a national nonprofit that creates employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities. She began her legal career as a trial lawyer for the U.S. Department of Labor and worked as corporate counsel for Mary Kay Inc. Born in Texas to Mexican immigrants, Tamez grew up as the youngest daughter in a family of six children. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
