The Iowa legislature have recently approved a bill that permits students to carry stun guns on public campuses.
Currently, it is legal throughout the state for anyone over the age of 18 to carry a weapon producing a “non-projectile high voltage pulse” to immobilize a person, according to ABC-affiliate station KCRG.
The legislature want to allow the stun guns on public college and university campuses, which is creating a growing concern that students may use the devices on each other for fun and not self-defense.
The guns proposed in the bill are available in stores throughout the state and are not as powerful as the ones that police officers carry.
The proposed legislation will soon go to the state Senate for a vote.
