Aileen BumphisTitle: Associate Vice President, Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence, University of Texas at Austin

Bumphus is the associate vice president of the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence, a unit within The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE) at the University of Texas at Austin.  She holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Her academic area of study centers around emotional intelligence, resiliency and leadership. In her role, she oversees the programming and academic support components in the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence. The center provides resources to maximize the academic success as well as personal and professional development of first generation and underrepresented students at the University of Texas at Austin.  Her other responsibilities in the DDCE include building collaborative partnerships on and off campus that support student success; designing and implementing new opportunities focused on student leadership; and cultivating personal and professional development and global learning. Previously, Bumphus served as the executive director for the Gateway Scholars Program and, through her efforts, this program grew to be one of the largest and most successful student learning communities at UT. Many of her professional accomplishments center around serving underrepresented, low income and first generation students.  She has built and established successful partnerships within the University of Texas at Austin that support underrepresented students, many of which are with DDCE and the UT Law School, Dell Medical School, Texas Global and the College of Education.  Externally, she has established successful partnerships with Huston-Tillotson University and Austin Community College. Within the local community, she established an experiential learning program for students with the University CO-OP, a nonprofit organization supporting the University of Texas at Austin.  Currently, she is focused on solutions that address equity and diversity in higher education and the underrepresentation of students of color pursuing law and health professions.
