CLEO Announces New Scholarship During Honors Reception

The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc. (CLEO) announced a new scholarship to help first-year law students who are passionate about advocating for civil rights and social justice.

CLEO will present 10 scholarships to individuals next year.

“The cornerstone of this scholarship will be the recipients’ passion for safeguarding the civil rights of all Americans, but especially those who are disenfranchised,” said Cassandra Sneed Ogden, CEO of CLEO. “We anticipate this scholarship to attract large numbers of students who believe in social justice and who want to give back to their communities.”

The new scholarship was announced during an honors reception which recognized individuals for their commitment to diversity, education and equality. During the ceremony, former governor of Massachusetts Deval L. Patrick was given the Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. CLEO EDGE Heritage Award. As a civil rights attorney, Patrick worked to end discrimination, increase voter registration and enabled equal access to a college education for underserved populations., according to CLEO.
