Semi LogoA $1 million California Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI) New and Innovative Grant has been awarded to SEMI, a global group representing electronics manufacturing and design chain.

SEMI shares the grant with its partners: Ignited Education, a group that connects teachers and supports their role in improving math and science skills; Foothill College, a community college in Los Altos Hills, CA; and the Krause Center for Innovation, which brings educators together to learn innovative ways to motivate, challenge, and inspire students in their classrooms.

SEMI and its partners will use the grant to develop a semiconductor pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship program for California’s community colleges called SCAN, the SEMI Career and Apprenticeship Network. Eventually the program will spread to other schools nationwide.

CAI’s grants aim to strengthen the apprenticeship pipeline in microelectronics to bolster economic growth and create new opportunities for workers from minoritized communities to access higher-wage professions.
